Wednesday is
Valentines Day, just in case you have forgotten. We are booked up for that night,
but we do have a few places left for Lunch or dinner during the week.
We have two
marvellous wine
tastings coming up.
- A Burgundy tasting on the 23rd February. M. Vallet from Vallet Freres will talk to
us over dinner while we drink his marvellous wines (A white Pernand
Vergelesses, a Beaune 1 cru, followed by his Gevrey Chambertin ) Dinner
will be a 4 course affair at a cost of £58 pp, do have a look at the
proposed menu on our web page http://www.redcoats.co.uk/menu.htm
- Friday 27th
April, wines from Beelgara vineyards, in N.S.W Australia. http://www.beelgaraestate.com.au/
More about that nearer the time
You may remember
Miguel Merino from Rioja, he has been to Redcoats many times to host wine
tastings. Anyway we met him last week and he shared some of his new
wines with us, which are superb. Needless to say they, will be on the list
shortly. Two other wines to add on to our
list are a Merlotfrom Cousino-Macul in Chile and a really lovely
Argentinan Malbec Reserva - This particular winery is located
at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Rodeo del Medio, in the heart
of the Maipú district in Mendoza ( with a view to die for).
Pol Roger were
showing their range of champagnes, so we now have, not only the White Foil, but
also the 1998 vintage. ( We were a bit spoilt for choice here)
Those of you who
like a sweet wine with your pudding, must try the Tokaji 4 puttonyos [The
puttonyos system is where 27.2kg baskets (puttony) of botrytised (nobly
rotted) grapes are added to 'dry wine' grapes, thus the number of baskets
added dictates the puttonyos level of the wine!!] Well...I think that's what
it's all about. Bring this email in and I will let you try some. www.crownestates-tokaji.com
18th March is
Mothering Sunday, if you are quick you could still have a table, and
please don't forget Fathers day on Sunday 17th June. Sunday is always a busy
day, but we do sometimes have last minute cancellations so, if we are full when
you ring please leave a telephone number with us.
The Chinese New
Year is on the 18th, and St George's day is on Monday 23rd April. Redcoats
doesn't do big celebrations for the Chinese New Year, we leave that to The
Regents Cottage and the like, but we do celebrate OUR Patron Saint with
rousing songs and Roast beef. Lunchtime on the 23rd should be spent
at Redcoats. We will be flying his flag!
Unbeknown to just
about everybody (in true Redcoats style) we will be opening
for supper on Sunday nights for parties of 6 or more. If you would
like to book Sunday supper with us, its always worth a call. P.S.This
will not be the a la carte menu.
Our web site will
be changing soon, with the addition of online booking for the bedrooms and we
are looking into a way for you to buy our very popular gift vouchers
direct from the site.
The game season
has come to end now, so this will be your last chance to sample the local
produce, ie Partridge and Pheasant, for another eight months. Our Oisen
venison from the Finnebrogue Estate is delicious as ever and will be on
the menu for a while yet.
Head Chef Scott
has produced his new menu for February, do check it out at http://www.redcoats.co.uk/menu.htm
Smoking
Day
From July 1st it
will be illegal to smoke in most public places. To 'celebrate' this we are
proposing to let our two original dining rooms, (not the conservatory) be
smoking rooms, on the last two weekdays ie 28th & 29th June. That is
if you haven't all given up by then. Paul Nelson from Hunters and
Frankau http://www.cigars.co.uk/index.php has
generously donated Havana cigars, and special ones at that. They are
a brand new, shorter cigar from Montecristo. We will remind you nearer to the
date
